近日，發(fā)展中國(guó)家科學(xué)院（TWAS）公布新增院士名單，共增選出47位發(fā)展中國(guó)家科學(xué)院院士。本次增選院士來自全球24個(gè)國(guó)家和地區(qū)，其中6位來自中國(guó)內(nèi)地高校和機(jī)構(gòu)。中國(guó)科學(xué)院院士、歐洲科學(xué)院院士、北師港浸大（UIC）校長(zhǎng)湯濤教授當(dāng)選，是2023年我國(guó)數(shù)學(xué)領(lǐng)域唯一當(dāng)選人。

發(fā)展中國(guó)家科學(xué)院成立于1983年11月，是非政府、非政治和非營(yíng)利性的國(guó)際科學(xué)組織；致力于支持和促進(jìn)發(fā)展中國(guó)家的科學(xué)研究，鼓勵(lì)對(duì)發(fā)展中國(guó)家存在的問題進(jìn)行研究，推動(dòng)發(fā)展中國(guó)家基礎(chǔ)科學(xué)和應(yīng)用科學(xué)的發(fā)展。發(fā)展中國(guó)家科學(xué)院院士一般從發(fā)展中國(guó)家的著名科學(xué)家中選舉產(chǎn)生，外籍院士從發(fā)達(dá)國(guó)家的著名科學(xué)家中選舉產(chǎn)生。截至目前，全球共有發(fā)展中國(guó)家科學(xué)院院士約1400人，分布在數(shù)學(xué)、物理學(xué)、化學(xué)、天文學(xué)、地學(xué)、生物學(xué)、農(nóng)學(xué)、醫(yī)學(xué)、工程科學(xué)、社會(huì)和經(jīng)濟(jì)學(xué)領(lǐng)域。

湯濤教授簡(jiǎn)介

湯濤，計(jì)算數(shù)學(xué)家，教育部長(zhǎng)江學(xué)者講座教授，中國(guó)科學(xué)院院士，歐洲科學(xué)院院士，發(fā)展中國(guó)家科學(xué)院院士。湯濤教授主要從事計(jì)算數(shù)學(xué)研究，在雙曲型方程計(jì)算方法誤差分析，微分方程譜方法理論，相場(chǎng)模型的高精度算法，以及計(jì)算流體力學(xué)等領(lǐng)域的研究工作具有廣泛影響。2018年受邀在國(guó)際數(shù)學(xué)家大會(huì)作45分鐘邀請(qǐng)報(bào)告。他擔(dān)任多個(gè)國(guó)際數(shù)學(xué)期刊主編或編委，榮獲馮康科學(xué)計(jì)算獎(jiǎng)、教育部自然科學(xué)獎(jiǎng)、國(guó)家自然科學(xué)獎(jiǎng)等多項(xiàng)獎(jiǎng)勵(lì)。

UIC President Prof Tang Tao elected TWAS Fellow

The World Academy of Sciences for the advancement of science in developing countries (TWAS) recently elected 47 new Fellows, hailing from 24 countries and regions worldwide, six of whom are from the Chinese mainland institutions. Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Fellow of the European Academy of Sciences and UIC President Prof Tang Tao was the only Chinese person in the field of Mathematical Sciences elected in 2023.

TWAS supports sustainable prosperity through research, education, policy and diplomacy. It is based in Trieste, Italy, founded in 1983 by a distinguished group of scientists from the developing world.

Today, TWAS has about 1,400 elected fellows in the fields of mathematics, physics, chemistry, astronomy, geology, biology, agronomy, medicine, engineering sciences, social and economics. They are some of the world's most accomplished scientists and engineers, representing more than 100 countries; 12 of them are Nobel laureates. About 84 per cent come from developing nations, and the rest are scientists from the developed world whose work has had a significant impact.

Prof Tang Tao is a Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, Fellow of the European Academy of Sciences, Fellow of the American Mathematical Society, Fellow of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM), and Fellow of the China Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (CSIAM). Widely known for his expertise in computational mathematics, in particular high-order methods and adaptive grid methods, Professor Tang was awarded the Leslie Fox Prize in Numerical Analysis, the Feng Kang Prize for Scientific Computing, First Prize in Natural Science by Ministry of Education, and Second Prize in the National Natural Science Award. He gave an invited lecture at the International Congress of Mathematicians (ICM) in 2018.

Professor Tang has long been served in Canada and Hong Kong in a variety of key roles. From 2015 to 2019, he was appointed as the Vice-president and Provost at the Southern University of Science and Technology. At present, he is the President of Beijing Normal University-Hong Kong Baptist University United International College (UIC).
